The UFC today made two rumored preliminary bouts official for the March “UFC on Versus 1” event: Clay Guida vs. Shannon Gugerty and Rob Kimmons vs. Mike Pierce.
Guida’s appointment to the undercard is surprising. Despite often coming up on the losing end of his battles, Guida remains one of the most popular fighters in the company and that status typically affords him placement on televised portions of UFC events.
Guida was originally scheduled to face Sean Sherk in a main-card matchup, but Gugerty took the fight when Sherk was forced to withdraw from the bout due to injury. Guida last appeared at UFC 107, losing to Kenny Florian by submission.
Gugerty, meanwhile, most recently appeared at UFC 105 in England, where he was submitted by British prospect Terry Etim.
