Brock Lesnar vs Shane Carwin For Real Title At UFC 116

As a human being, the illness may have also changed Lesnar’s outlook on life.

“You definitely take a different approach on life. You realize that there’s nothing more important in life and you really find out who your friends are,” explained Lesnar, who likened his time spent in the hospital to practically laying on his deathbed.

The UFC’s decision to quickly appoint the Shane Carwin-Frank Mir winner as interim heavyweight champion demonstrates just how important it was for the show to go on. Because Carwin holds the interim title, Brock Lesnar will once again have the task of unifying the UFC belts in this bout.

In the end, Lesnar is unconcerned with the idea that the winner of his fight may have the torch passed to them, and just wants to see Carwin as any another opponent.

“I’m just excited to get back in the Octagon. I don’t give a damn who it is. I’m just excited to fight.”

Without a doubt, Shane Carwin will be Lesnar’s hardest challenge so far, and should he win this fight, Brock deserves credit for biting off the hardest challenges possible so early in his career. At the same time, Lesnar doesn’t have much of a resume to fall back on should he lose. Either way, fans are eagerly looking forward to the 3rd of July—not just to see who the winner will be, but also to see the incredible spectacle of two super-heavyweight fighters go at it like Godzilla vs King Kong. The winner will be set to go against either Junior dos Santos or Cain Velasquez in what are sure to be massive pay-per-view bonanzas, but the UFC 116 main event by itself is going to be a barnburner.
