Story defeats Alves via unanimous decision
Rick Story went home a big winner tonight.
Facing his toughest test to date in Thiago Alves, Story came out looking to grind and, in the process, avoid the stand up of his Brazilian foe. He was successful with his gameplan throughout the first two rounds, controlling the fight for the most part.
But, in the third round Alves changed the pace of the fight. The devastating striker managed to land vicious strikes, including knees that his corner had been calling for all night. Unfortunately, the former top contender could not change the first two rounds and fell short on the judges’ scorecards.
The victory is a big one for Story, who has earned a victory over a big-name talent for the first time in his career.
