Second round TKO win moves “The Spider” to 14-0 in the UFC
Anderson Silva has no equal inside the cage. He proved that again Saturday night in Rio de Janeiro at UFC 134.
After the majority of the first round was spent feeling each other out and clinched against the cage trading knees, the UFC middleweight champion ended the frame with a head kick, as if to say, “I can connect whenever I want.” When he came out to start the second round, he put that statement into practice, channeling the stick-and-move style he displayed against Forrest Griffin at UFC 101.
Silva dropped his hands, tempting Yushin Okami to come in, and when he did, Silva made him pay.
Just like he did Griffin, the champion dropped Okami with a stiff right jab, but refused to chase him to the ground. Once the challenger rose to his feet, Silva resumed his display of dominance. His hands still resting around his hips, Silva floored Okami again, landing with a rapid hook.
This time, Silva pounced, measuring the fallen Japanese fighter with sniper-like precision on the ground. After a stream of strikes including an elbow, a knee to the body and a handful of laser-sighted rights, referee Herb Dean mercifully stepped in to wave off the proceedings, handing Silva his 15th consecutive win overall.
The win extends Silva’s incredible run in the UFC.
The 36-year-old Brazilian is 14-0 inside the Octagon, and keeps adding to the record books with each victory. The victory pushes his string of consecutive title defenses to nine, and cements Silva as the top fighter on the planet.
