Wiman earns unanimous decision win

After three rounds of action, Matt Wiman earned the unanimous decision over Mac Danzig in the opening fight of tonight’s main card at “UFC on Versus 6.”

The opening round featured Wiman’s intensity, while Danzig attempted to counter with strikes to slow down his opponent. They each traded throughout, but neither was able to take control of the round.

The second was more of the same at the start, as Wiman came out with a frantic pace. But a takedown by Danzig stopped Wiman’s attack for a moment. From the bottom, however, he continued to threaten, looking for a triangle choke. Danzig managed to avoid it, but his opponent transitioned to an armbar attempt. Danzig powered his way out and secured the round with his wrestling.

Unfortunately for the former “Ultimate Fighter” winner, the final round was not nearly as successful as the third. Danzig managed to earn the takedown and moved to the back, but Wiman shook him off and gained top control. Vicious elbows punished Danzig, who worked his way back to the feet in the closing moments. He attempted a guillotine choke in the final seconds, but it was too little, too late.

Wiman walked away with the unanimous decision victory in the rematch after their controversial first meeting. Definite “Fight of the Night” contender, as the rest of the card has a lot to live up to.
