The Indiana Fever are in the middle of a tough six-day stretch with four games, but they got some good news before the New York Liberty game.

On Friday night, the Fever needed some help if they wanted to lock up a spot in the WNBA playoffs. That’s exactly what happened, as Indiana saw the Toronto Tempo beat the Portland Fire 82-79.

After the game, the Fever announced that with the Fire’s loss, they have clinched a playoff spot. The team shared a post about it late in the night.

“HEADING TO THE PLAYOFFS

we’ve officially clinched a spot in the 2026 WNBA Playoffs”

The Fever currently have a 24-13 overall record and are sitting in fourth in the standings. They are still 6.5 games behind the Minnesota Lynx for first place.

Grabbing that number one spot feels impossible for the Fever, so the focus shifts to the two teams ahead of them: Golden State Valkyries and Las Vegas Aces. All three teams are a game and a half apart.

Indiana has a realistic chance of going as high as the second seed in the playoffs. That will be what the Fever will need to get to in order to have the easiest path during the postseason.

The work really starts with the two games they have to play on Saturday and Sunday. First, the Fever play New York on Saturday and then the Chicago Sky on Sunday.

This is an important stretch for the Fever, as now they have to start thinking about protecting their players. They already have injury concerns with Caitlin Clark’s back and Aliyah Boston’s lower leg. Overworking them could go in a bad direction for the Fever.

Once they get through the weekend, it should get easier with the World Cup break about a week away. After that, they can rest up and prepare for the final stretch of regular season games and be ready for the playoffs. The Fever have the talent to be a WNBA title contender, but how they handle the next few weeks could determine their success.
