Super Mario Maker 3DS Announced

Nintendo has announced Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS, which will be in the same vein as the popular Nintendo Wii U game that was released for holiday 2015. Given the success of the original, it looks like Nintendo wants to capitalize on the creativity of the Nintendo community with the new 3DS version.

It sounds like Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS — yes, that’s what it’s officially being called —  will have to rely on local sharing and street pass to share their 3DS levels, as there won’t be an online destination to do so. There will also be Wii U courses available, although Nintendo explicitly stated that not all Wii U levels will be compatible with the 3DS version of the game.

Every tool will be available, excluding the Mystery Mushrooms feature set. Players will also be able to share their partially finished courses to their friends, which will encourage collaboration between friends.

The Wii U version of the game received glowing reviews, and it was a major success for Nintendo last year, helping to keep the Wii U afloat for the holiday season.

The release date is set for December 2nd.
