Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer took time out of his busy schedule – preparing his team for a New Year’s Day Sugar Bowl matchup against No. 1 Alabama – to tend to some family business Monday.

Georgia Tech senior wide receiver Corey Dennis proposed to longtime girlfriend Nicki Meyer, Urban’s daughter, and the coach was there to witness it.

Nicki Meyer, 24, was also an athlete for the Yellow Jackets; she played volleyball.

The wedding date is unknown.

Nicki’s sister, Gigi Meyer, posted the news on her Twitter account shortly after Dennis, 22, proposed.


2. Dennis is Joining a Famous – And Athletic – Family

Most of know who Dennis’ future father-in-law is – Ohio State head football coach Urban Meyer.

But Dennis’ bride-to-be and Urban’s daughter is a pretty good athlete herself. Nicki Meyer played on the Georgia Tech volleyball team, leading the team in digs with 395 in 2012.


3. Dennis Played in 53 Games for Georgia Tech

Dennis has played in 53 games since enrolling at Georgia Tech. In his first two seasons, he played primarily on special teams. As a true freshman, he had 1 punt return for 7 yards and recorded 7 tackles (solo).

He started the first 3 games of his junior season and was known for his blocking ability in Georgia Tech’s run-heavy scheme.

Dennis made his first career reception this season, a 7-yard catch against N.C. State on Nov. 8.


4. Dennis Was a Standout High School Player

Dennis lettered all 4 years at Charles Henderson High in Troy, Ala. He played receiver in 2008 and 2009 before making the switch to quarterback his senior season. That year he threw for 1,170 yards and added another 1,144 on the ground, becoming the first player in school history to go over 1,000 in both in the same season.

Dennis, who owns his high school record for rushing touchdowns, was named a Dothan Eagle Super 12 selection in 2010.


5. Dennis’ Father Played For Georgia

Dennis’ father, Steve Dennis, played football for Georgia from 1974-78. Originally a quarterback as a Bulldogs freshman, Steve Dennis was moved to linebacker and served as defensive team captain his senior season.

The elder Dennis has been on the coaching staffs of Georgia and Auburn, and also served as the athletics director at Troy.

Today he works in business for Auburn, Ala.-based CoachComm, an athletics sideline communications firm.

Steve Dennis is married to Lisa.
