The Par 3 Contest is traditionally held the Wednesday before the start of the Masters Tournament. It’s been that way since 1960.
The laid-back event is open to all of the major’s participants, past champions and whoever Augusta National asks to join in.
But the invitation should come with this warning: No Par 3 Contest victor has ever gone on to win the Masters in the same year.
Ryan Moore found that out last year. The 2014 Par 3 winner didn’t make the cut at main event.
Regardless, the fan-friendly affair, which is played on the par-27, 1,060 yard course on the grounds, is a stress-free day, quite the opposite of what Thursday through Sunday presents.
