After a year of accolades for Barcelona, there is still more to achieve before 2015 can end.
With a three-goal performance against Betis today, Barca will break the record for goals in a calendar year. That mark is currently held by Madrid, who netted 178 goals in 2014. Barcelona are on the verge of that number, with 134 of those coming from the combination of Messi, Neymar and Suarez.
In what will be Lionel Messi’s 500th career appearance for the side, Barcelona has to worry about keeping their players fresh. They just finished winning the Club World Cup in Japan, and still have Copa del Rey and Champions League fixtures on the horizon. With that in mind, expect to see other signings like Alex Vidal begin to make their way into the rotation.
Real Betis are hanging around mid-table at tenth, and a miraculous three points today would send them as high as eighth.
