Latest Celtics News
Kristaps Porzingis : Strong from deep to boost offense
Porzingis amassed 18 points (7-13 FG, 4-8 3Pt), four rebounds, one assist, two blocks and one steal in 34 minutes during Sunday's 114-94 victory over the Heat in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals. Porzingis ended two points shy of the 20-point mark but was a key contributor as the Celtics ran away with Game 1. The big man drilled four three-pointers and was a plus-17 in his 34 minutes of action. Porzingis and the Celtics will have two days off before Wednesday's Game 2.
Jayson Tatum : Does it all in triple-double
Tatum notched 23 points (7-18 FG, 1-8 3Pt, 8-8 FT), 10 rebounds, 10 assists and two steals in 41 minutes during Sunday's 114-94 victory over Miami in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals. Tatum did a little bit of everything for Boston in its Game 1 victory, leading all players in rebounds and assists while pacing the Celtics in scoring along with a pair of steals. The triple-double was Tatum's first of the 2023-24 season. During the regular season, he surpassed 10 assists in one game while hauling in 10 or more boards 24 times.
Derrick White : Drops 20 points in return
White contributed 20 points (6-10 FG, 4-8 3Pt, 4-4 FT), three rebounds, four assists and one block in 33 minutes during Sunday's 114-94 win over the Heat in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals. White returned for the start of the postseason after missing Boston's final two games of the regular season with an ankle injury, crossing the 20-point mark while connecting on a team-high-tying mark from three and concluding as one of two players with 20 or more points in a Game 1 victory. White surpassed the 20-point mark in 19 games over the regular season, doing so for the first time since recording 22 points on March 28.
Svi Mykhailiuk : Coming off bench Sunday
Mykhailiuk will run with the second unit for Sunday's Game 1 versus Miami Mykhailiuk is not expected to serve a relevant role in the rotation moving forward. The 26-year-old averaged 3.3 points in 8.8 minutes while knocking down 38.2 percent of 2.3 threes per game across 39 appearances off the bench this season.
Jordan Walsh : Back to end of rotation
Walsh won't start Game 1 of the opening-round series against the Heat on Sunday. With Boston resting its usual starters, Walsh made his first career NBA start during the regular-season finale and posted one point (0-2 FG), three rebounds, two steals and an assist in 17 minutes during a win over Washington. The rookie spent most of the season in the G League and isn't expected to be part of the Celtics' postseason rotation.
Payton Pritchard : Returning to second unit
Pritchard will come off the bench for Sunday's Game 1 against Miami. After starting the final two regular-season contests, Pritchard will return to his typical bench role while Jrue Holiday and Derrick White anchor the backcourt. In addition to the aforementioned guards, Boston will roll with its fully healthy starting lineup Sunday, featuring Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown and Kristaps Porzingis.
Sam Hauser : Won’t start Sunday
Hauser won't start Game 1 of the opening-round series against the Heat on Sunday. With Boston resting its usual starters, Hauser drew back-to-back starts to end the regular season and scored 32 points (12-37 FG) over those two contests. The sharpshooter is expected to garner a 15-to-20-minute role during the postseason.
Luke Kornet : Set for multi-game absence
Coach Joe Mazzulla said Sunday that Kornet (calf) is "week-to-week" after suffering a calf injury at practice this week, Brian Robb of The Springfield Republican reports. Kornet's injury opens the door for Xavier Tillman to log third-string center minutes and step into the occasional frontcourt mismatch scenario with his strength. Kornet averaged just 2.1 points and 1.3 rebounds in 4.0 minutes across eight postseason appearances last year, so there isn't precedent for much rotational change in Boston.
