Chad Muma: Breaking News

The Patriots signed Muma to the active roster Tuesday. Muma was signed off the Colts' practice squad. The linebacker played in five games for the team, logging five tackles, including three solo tackles, over the 32 defensive snaps he saw the field. The signing will stabilize the depth in the Patriots' linebacker room caused by the absence of Robert Spillane (foot).

Muma was cut by the Colts on Saturday. Muma was a healthy scratch in Indianapolis' Week 8 win over the Titans, so it's no surprise that he was dropped Saturday. The Wyoming product appeared in five games for the Colts prior to being waived, recording five total tackles over 104 total snaps (71 on special teams, 32 on defense).

Muma was inactive for Sunday's win over Miami. Muma will back up Joe Bachie and Cameron McGrone at linebacker, but he may not be active on game days as he looks like No. 6 on the depth chart among linebackers. Muma worked in a reserve role at Jacksonville last season, with 322 of his 563 total snaps coming on special teams.
