New York Giants rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart flashed potential during OTAs and minicamp, but there are still areas he can improve.

Just like that, the practice portion of the New York Giants’ 2025 mandatory minicamp is over, and rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart’s final day of spring epitomized the early stages of his NFL career.

NorthJersey.com beat writer Art Stapleton reported three Dart touchdowns during a 7-on-7 red zone and goal line period on June 18, but the first-round talent has often paired highs with lows and flashes of potential with mistakes over the past month or so.

On Wednesday, for example, “Jaxson Dart was intercepted twice,” per The Athletic’s Dan Duggan. He described the two turnovers as “a forced pass into the end zone that was picked by S Raheem Layne and a deep ball that was deflected by CB Art Green and hauled in by a toe-tapping S Dane Belton deep along the right sideline.”

After the final practice session of minicamp ended, SNY Giants insider Connor Hughes gave fans his honest assessment of Dart’s overall spring performance.

“Here’s what I can say about [Dart],” Hughes began via SNY Giants. “I wasn’t blown away, necessarily, by Dart throughout this offseason program. This wasn’t a guy that lit the world on fire, but the biggest compliment I can give him is that for a player that so many talked about being green [and] needing a full year to develop, I genuinely believe that after training camp, if he had to play a game early this year, he could play.”

“Again, I don’t think he’ll light the world on fire,” the NYG media member stressed. “I don’t know if he’ll be this great rookie quarterback, but he’s someone that you can clearly see can play. And if the Giants built an offensive game plan around him, I believe he could have some success very early in his career.”

Jaxson Dart Has Up & Down Spring With Giants, But the Intangibles Are There

Outside of No. 1 overall pick Cam Ward, this 2025 quarterback class was always viewed as a step below the elite group that burst onto the scene in 2024. Based on Hughes’ honest assessment of Dart, that general scouting report checks out so far.

Now, while that may be disappointing for some Giants fans to hear — considering QBs like Jayden Daniels, Jalen Hurts and Dak Prescott currently reside inside the NFC East alone — it does not mean Dart cannot turn into a highly efficient and successful quarterback.

But it’s going to start with his work ethic and development, and the good news is Dart seems to have all the intangibles that you want to see in a potential franchise QB.

“Quite honestly, this is, like, the most important thing to me,” Dart told reporters on June 18, via SNY Giants. “Being able to come to work every single day, I mean, I just love it. I love being around the facilities.”

“So, I feel like a lot of times, I try to be the last one to leave here,” the rookie continued, “and I want to put as much as I can into this [opportunity]. I have a vision and a goal for myself, and that goes far beyond just starting here and being in the NFL.”

Dart concluded that to do that, he knows he’ll have to “put in all that I can.”

Giants QB Jaxson Dart Says He Feels He’s Made ‘Tremendous Strides’ From the Start of OTAs Through Minicamp

While speaking on Wednesday, Dart also noted that he feels like he’s made “tremendous strides” throughout Giants’ OTAs and minicamp. SNY Giants shared the video of Dart once again.

“Just being able to understand the pictures of the offense and whatnot,” he explained. “Obviously, I’ve got to dive into it a lot more, but I’m definitely just trying to take it to the next level [in preparation for training camp]. Really just lock in, hone in on as much as I can throughout this time, so that way when I get back for training camp I’m on an even better level than I am now.”

As for his future with the Giants, Dart said that he has full trust in head coach Brian Daboll, offensive coordinator Mike Kafka, and this staff’s plan for his NFL development.

“I just trust them,” he voiced on June 18. “They’ve had this blueprint and they’ve done it with different quarterbacks and you’ve seen them succeed at the highest level.”

For his part, Dart only expressed that he wants to be “the most coachable player” that he can be, adding that he’s not looking for immediate results and is a “process-driven person.”
