The Toronto Blue Jays could still sign star outfielder Kyle Tucker.

The Toronto Blue Jays have been connected heavily to superstar free agent outfielder Kyle Tucker for much of the MLB offseason.

At this point in time, Tucker remains a free agent. His market has yet to develop to what he expected, which could lead to him taking either less money or a shorter-term contract.

With that being said, a new update has been shared about the Blue Jays’ potential interest in Tucker.

Mitch Bannon of The Athletic made an appearance on Sportsnet 590 The FAN and made it clear that the Blue Jays are still interested in signing Tucker.

“They’re being pretty aggressive in the recruitment of Tucker,” Bannon said. “It’s a bit of a courting session right now, but ultimately it’s going to come down to the contract number.”

Simply hearing that Toronto is still interested and has been aggressive in recruiting Tucker shows that the interest level from early in the offseason has not died off.

Bo Bichette Rumors Are Growing Increasingly Loud for the Toronto Blue Jays

While this report should excite Blue Jays fans, the situation involving Bo Bichette has become increasingly more likely that the star shortstop will leave Toronto.

Bichette is reportedly set to meet for a second time with the Philadelphia Phillies soon. They are starting to trend as the favorite to land him, although the Chicago Cubs, Los Angeles Dodgers, and New York Yankees remain potential landing spots as well.

“Bichette is expected to meet with Phillies officials on a video conference call in the coming days, those sources said,” The Athletic reported on January 8. “The club’s interest in Bichette is legitimate, and if it results in a deal, it would likely require the team to move on from roster mainstays J.T. Realmuto and Alec Bohm.”

Last season with the Blue Jays, Bichette put up good numbers. He played in 139 games, hitting 18 home runs to go along with 94 RBI and a slash line of .311/.357/.483.

Assuming Toronto does lose Bichette, there would be a clear need to replace his production. Signing Tucker would be an obvious way to find that replacement.

Kyle Tucker Would Elevate the Blue Jays’ World Series Chances

After coming up just short in the World Series last season against the Los Angeles Dodgers, bringing Tucker in would give the Blue Jays a better chance at winning it all in 2026.

During the 2025 MLB season with the Cubs, Tucker dealt with some injury issues and missed some time. His production also took a dip due to the injury problems.

In 136 games, Tucker hit 22 home runs, drove in 73 RBI, and slashed .266/.377/.464. When fully healthy, Tucker is one of the best bats in baseball. Toronto would likely get much more production from him should a deal get done.

At this point in time, no one knows what Tucker’s price tag will end up being. His market has come down from the $400 million it once appeared to be. There have even been reports about him potentially considering a short-term deal.

If the Blue Jays decide that they want Tucker, a deal could likely get done. He won’t come cheap, but he’s exactly the kind of piece that could power a championship run.
