The Seattle Seahawks are on top of the world right now, as they took down the New England Patriots by a score of 29-13 to win Super Bowl LX on Sunday. There’s no doubt that this win is extremely important for the legacies of everybody on the team, but if you ask head coach Mike Macdonald, he thinks this could be a game-changing result for wide receiver Cooper Kupp.
In his first season with the Seahawks, Kupp emerged as a secondary option in the passing game, catching 47 passes for 593 yards and two touchdowns. However, this is now his second Super Bowl victory, and when you put his entire body of work together, Macdonald believes that the star pass catcher is authoring a Hall of Fame career.
Mike Macdonald Labels Cooper Kupp a Future Hall of Famer
A third-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, Kupp spent the first eight years of his career with the Seahawks’ NFC West rival, the Los Angeles Rams. During his first four seasons, Kupp was generally a solid wide receiver, but he was never considered to be among the upper-echelon of players at his position.
Everything changed in 2021, when Kupp teamed up with Matthew Stafford to put together one of the most dominant seasons from a wide receiver in NFL history. Kupp won the league’s receiving triple crown, as he led all pass catchers with 145 receptions for 1,947 yards and 16 touchdowns. Those numbers earned him Pro Bowl and All-Pro First Team honors, and he also won the Super Bowl LVI MVP Award.
Since then, Kupp has struggled to stay healthy, and the emergence of Puka Nacua made him expendable in Los Angeles. He latched on with Seattle this season, and while he played second-fiddle to Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Kupp was the Seahawks’ most productive receiver in the Super Bowl, catching six passes for 61 yards. With another productive outing on the NFL’s biggest stage in the books, Macdonald believes Kupp’s Hall of Fame case is set in stone.
“Cooper is an absolute force multiplier, an absolute stud of a person, stud of a teammate,” Macdonald said of Kupp. “This should cement him in the Hall of Fame, in my opinion. Super Bowl MVP, two-time champion, all-time great teammate.”
Is Cooper Kupp a Future Hall of Famer?

Kupp’s Hall of Fame case is a bit murky right now. While his 2021 campaign is obviously legendary, his body of work besides that isn’t wildly impressive. Yes, Kupp has a pair of Super Bowl championships to his name, but will one outrageously dominant season be enough to get him into the Hall?
As we saw this year, with former Patriots’ head coach Bill Belichick getting snubbed, nobody is ever guaranteed entry into the Hall of Fame. Kupp still has time to add to his accomplishments, but if his career ended today, the argument that he’s a surefire Hall of Famer doesn’t hold much weight. And unless he can produce like he did in 2021 again, it’s tough to say that will change anytime soon.
