Shelton also has covered the NFL for USA Today SMG, covering the Buffalo Bills and Cleveland Browns for a season.

He worked for CBC Sports, covering Canadian sports, and helped cover the 2020 and 2022 Olympic Games. Cole was also part of a team that won an RTDNA Canada award for excellence in sports reporting.
