New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone is sure to stir up some drama after he called the 2025 Yankees the best team he’s managed.
The Yankees have been on a major slide and see themselves in third place in the AL East and holding onto the second Wild Card spot. Despite the struggles and what the record indicates, Boone believes this is the most talented team he’s managed.
“The difficult thing for me is I really feel like we potentially have such a good team right now, and we haven’t been able to put it together,” Boone said to Talkin’ Yanks. “A big part of that is on me. I got to help set the tone to put these guys in a position to help realize their position.
“I tell a lot of people privately, I’ll tell you guys now. In a lot of ways, I feel like this is potentially the best team we’ve had here over the last several years,” Boone added. “But we have to put it together and go realize that potential, because that’s all it is right now. We’ve got to go. I do absolutely believe that we have that run in us. Talk is cheap, this is just on paper right now, it’s got to happen.”
As Boone says, the talent is there for the Yankees. But, they haven’t been able to put it all together. New York added a true ace in Max Fried this offseason and solidified the bullpen at the trade deadline.
The Yankees also have a potent lineup, which is why Boone says this is the best team on paper he’s managed. However, the team on the field isn’t living up to expectations.
Boone Says Yankees Have to Act Fast
Given that Boone believes this is the best team he’s managed, he knows the Yankees need to go on a run soon.
The MLB regular season has less than two months left. So the time is running out for the Yankees to go on a run. With that, Boone says the team needs to act fast and go on their run as soon as possible.
“Right now, you have to get over that. No one feels bad for you. The tough part about it, or the frustrating part about it, is I know we have the people to get it done,” Boone added. “We have to put it together. The good thing is we have time. Time is of the essence; we have to play an extended period of really good baseball where we are racking up wins. This isn’t feel sorry for yourselves, this is go do something about it.”
The Yankees started out hot and had a commanding lead in the AL East. But, since the calendar turned to June, New York is 25-31 and just 1.5 games up on a Wild Card spot.
So, Boone knows the Yankees have to turn it around soon if they are going to go on another deep playoff run.
Yankees Get Judge Back
With New York looking to get back on track, Aaron Judge will return from the injured list and return to the lineup on August 5.
Judge suffered a flexor strain in his right elbow, and he will be a DH in his return. The hope is that he can return to the field in the coming days. But getting Judge back in the lineup will be a big boost to the Yankees’ offense.
Judge is hitting .342 with 37 home runs and 85 RBIs this season with the Yankees.
New York placed Austin Slater on the 10-day IL with a left hamstring strain in the corresponding move for Judge.
