Roman Anthony: Breaking News

Anthony (back) isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Orioles. The Red Sox had been hopeful that Anthony would return to action Friday, but his absence is now set to reach four consecutive games after missing out on Saturday's starting nine. Jarren Duran, Ceddanne Rafaela and Wilyer Abreu will start across the outfield while Andruw Monasterio starts as Boston's designated hitter.

Anthony (back) is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Orioles, Rob Bradford of WEEI.com reports. The 21-year-old outfielder will sit for a third straight game Friday due to upper-back tightness, which first surfaced on a swing during Tuesday's loss to the Yankees. According to Ian Browne of MLB.com, Anthony is showing improvement and could see the field at some point this weekend in Baltimore.

Anthony (back) is hopeful that he'll be able to play Friday against the Orioles, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports. Anthony forced to miss Thursday's 4-2 loss to the Yankees with a back injury, marking his second straight absence. The outfielder spoke with the media following the defeat, outlining that he felt tightness in his upper back after hitting a line drive in Tuesday's 4-0 loss to New York, but he's now feeling much better. Anthony explained that he is hoping to make his return to action Friday, but he'll have to see how he feels in the morning before the game.
