We all wanted it, and, for a time, it seemed possible, but after the UFC could not lock down a deal with MMA legend Fedor Emelianenko, a fight between the Russian superstar and Brock Lesnar was out of the question.

But Dana White went to The Underground recently, asking fans just how badly they would like to see a match up between the two titans.

Obviously, the response was heavily in favor of the match up, but the UFC president cleared the air on FUEL TV, stating that he was merely asking the question.

At this point in time, the likelihood of this fight remains slim, to say the least. Emelianenko just recently retired, finishing his career with a stoppage victory, while Lesnar left the UFC after his loss to Alistair Overeem.

But rumors surfaced earlier this year that Lesnar and White were in talks and even had a meeting, likely regarding the former champion’s potential return to the sport’s most successful promotion.

That meeting didn’t go so well, according to White.

Factor that into the equation, along with Emelianenko’s retirement, and this match up can probably be filed under “High Profile Match Ups That Never Were.”

If it’s any consolation, at least White says a super fight between middleweight champion Anderson Silva and welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre could actually happen in the near future.

You win some, you lose some.
