MMAjunkie.com reported earlier this year that the UFC had reserved July 3 as the date for UFC 116 and have since confirmed that the Nevada State Athletic Commission has approved the date for the Fourth of July weekend.
The card is expected to feature a main event between heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar and interim heavyweight champion Shane Carwin. The anticipation surrounding the fight has been on the up-and-up ever since Carwin’s obliteration of Frank Mir at UFC 111, mostly due to Lesnar’s serious battle with poor health and the bad blood between the two men.
The event is set for Las Vegas, Nevada, and the MGM Grand is expected to play the role of host for the show. Stay tuned to Heavy.com for updates surround the July 3 event.
