Thiago Tavares lost his opponent for “UFC on Versus 2” last week when Willamy Freire was forced off the card due to injury and now he has lost his spot on the card.
According to MMAjunkie.com, a lightweight replacement could not be found in time and Tavares will be moved to a card in the near future.
The news comes just over one week prior to “UFC on Versus 2”, which is set for San Diego, California on August 1. The bout was set to serve as one of the evening’s preliminary fights, leading up to the main card featuring a light heavyweight contest between Vladimir Matyushenko and Jon Jones. At this point, it seems the preliminary card will only consist of six fights as opposed to the original seven.
