Mark Hominick to get a title shot with Jose Aldo if he defeats George Roop at UFC: Fight for the Troops 2

Mark Hominick’s “UFC Fight Night 23: Fight for the Troops 2” match up with George Roop took on new meaning when UFC president Dana White announced that if the Canadian defeats Roop, he’ll get a title shot against UFC featherweight titleholder Jose Aldo at UFC 129.

“If Mark Hominick wins this fight, he gets a shot at the title with Aldo and that will be in Toronto,” said White during a media conference call on Tuesday.

Aldo was scheduled to face Josh Grispi at UFC 125 in his first UFC title defense but was forced out of the bout due to injury. Dustin Poirier stepped in as Aldo’s replacement and dismantled Grispi, opening the door for Hominick to secure a title shot with a win next weekend.

Hominick is riding a four-fight win streak. Roop will not receive a title shot if he’s victorious over Hominick but can foil the plans.

If Roop wins, its’ “back to the drawing board,” said White about Aldo’s UFC 129 opponent.

UFC 129 takes place at the Rogers Centre in Toronto on April 30 and is headlined by welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre vs. Jake Shields. The featherweight title bout will serve as co-main event.
