Sotiropoulos meets Dunham at UFC 132
A lightweight bout between George Sotiropoulos and Evan Dunham is official for UFC 132 this July.
UFC officials announced the match up earlier today.
Dunham, who was billed as the promotion’s top lightweight prospect in recent history, has struggled in his last two bouts, failing to continue his impressive rise in the division. A controversial decision loss to Sean Sherk at UFC 119 ended the 29-year-old’s perfect fight record, and a loss to Melvin Guillard at “UFC: Fight for the Troops 2” marked his second in a row.
Meanwhile, Sotiropoulos finds himself in a similar situation, coming off his first loss in the UFC just recently. At UFC 127, striker Dennis Siver upset the Australian native in front of his many fans in Sydney, earning a unanimous decision victory after dominating Sotiropoulos on the feet. The loss snapped a seven-fight unbeaten streak for Sotiropoulos in the promotion.
UFC 132 will serve as the UFC’s annual Fourth of July event, taking place on July 2 in Las Vegas, Nevada. A main event is yet to be announced, but a welterweight rematch between Jon Fitch and B.J. Penn will serve as the evening’s co-main event.
