Griffin drops to 145 lb. mark, meets Gamburyan in June

Tyson Griffin has elected to drop down the the featherweight division, and Manny Gamburyan will welcome him to the division at “UFC on Versus 4.”

The UFC announced the match up earlier today.

Griffin’s move comes after several disappointing losses at the 155 lb. mark, including his most recent defeat, a controversial split-decision loss to Nik Lentz at UFC 123. Prior to that, he lost consecutive contests to Takanori Gomi and Evan Dunham, which marked the first time in his career he lost back-to-back outings.

Meanwhile, Gamburyan looks to get back into the title hunt after his championship bout against Jose Aldo at WEC 51 ended in disappointment. He was brutally knocked out in the second frame of the tilt, snapping a three-fight winning streak that included his upset knockout over Mike Brown at WEC 48.

“UFC on Versus 4” is likely for Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on June 26 and the card is still being compiled. A heavyweight bout between strikers Pat Barry and Cheick Kongo is currently in the works for the main card, while Griffin and Gamburyan could possibly make the broadcast as well.
