Bantamweights booked to meet in April
UFC bantamweight fighter Miguel Torres is set to return to the cage against top prospect Michael McDonald at UFC 145 in Atlanta.
The promotion announced the news on Friday. It will Torres’ first fight in the UFC since being released by the promotion in December, only to be brought back about three weeks later.
Torres was released after an inappropriate Twitter post, but brought back to the promotion after UFC president Dana White decided that Torres deserved another shot with the promotion after “being a man” and owning up to what he had done, taking steps to make amends.
Prior to the controversy, release and return, Torres handed Nick Pace a unanimous decision loss at UFC 139. Prior to that contest, he was defeated by Demetrious Johnson at UFC 130 by decision.
Meanwhile, McDonald’s career as of late has taken a much smoother course. Since joining the Zuffa banner, McDonald is a perfect 4-0, including his most recent victory, which came against Alex Soto at UFC 139.
UFC 145 is set for April 21 in Atlanta. The main event for the card has yet to be announced by the promotion, though most fights originally planned for the event in Montreal on March 24 will be moved to the Atlanta show.
