Lightweights booked for May 15 bout in Fairfax

A pair of lightweights looking to rebound from December losses will meet in May.

Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone and Yves Edwards have agreed to a fight at UFC on FX 3 on May 15 in Fairfax, Va. The UFC confirmed the fight this week.

Cerrone (17-4, 1 NC, 4-1 UFC) had a six-fight winning streak snapped at UFC 141 with a unanimous decision loss to Nate Diaz in the co-main event. Cerrone had put together one of the best streaks in the lightweight division, and had done so in dominating fashion. He won his final two WEC bouts before coming to the UFC in the merger and going 4-0 with three bonuses. But then he ran into Diaz, who outboxed him to snap his streak.

Edwards (41-18-1, 9-6 UFC), one of the UFC’s most veteran fighters, will return for the first time since a unanimous decision loss to Tony Ferguson on the TUF 14 Finale card in December. Prior to that fight, Edwards had put together a nice 3-1 mark since returning to the UFC, including a double bonus for Fight and Submission of the Night for his win over Cody McKenzie in January 2011.

UFC on FX 3 was recently announced by the promotion for the Patriot Center in Fairfax. It will be the UFC’s second visit to that venue, which is located just outside Washington, D.C. UFC Fight Night 20 also took place there in January 2010.
