Dustin Poirier vs. Chan Sung Jung Given Main Event Status at UFC on Fuel TV 3

Jung vs. Poirier official for UFC on Fuel TV 3 main event

A featherweight bout between Chan Sung Jung and Dustin Poirier is official for the main event slot at UFC on Fuel TV 3.

The promotion confirmed the bout Friday.

The matchup happened largely because of Poirier’s post-fight comments following his victory over Max Holloway at UFC 143 earlier this month. Poirier expressed interest in meeting “The Korean Zombie,” stating that he would like that bout before a title shot against champion Jose Aldo. Following the comment, the two featherweights went to Twitter, neither backing down.

And the UFC listened, making the bout happen.

Poirier’s victory earlier this month was his fifth in a row and his fourth in the UFC. He holds notable wins over Pablo Garza and Josh Grispi during that run.

Jung, meanwhile, has found a great deal of success of his own since joining the UFC. While his final two fights in the WEC ended in defeat, he is 2-0 since, including earning a vicious 7-second knockout win against Mark Hominick  at UFC 140.

UFC on Fuel TV 3 is set for Fairfax, Va., on May 15. While the main event between the featherweight contenders is set, no co-main event has been announced.
