Lorenzo Fertitta: Velasquez-Mir, Griffin-Ortiz III in the Works

Former UFC champion Frank Mir

UFC CEO makes fight announcements via Twitter

Lorenzo Fertitta was busy on Twitter very early Friday morning.

The CEO of the Ultimate Fighting Championship was asked by two separate individuals, the first asking who former light heavyweight champion Forrest Griffin was facing next, while the second question concerned the next opponent for former heavyweight champion Frank Mir.

To the first question, Fertitta replied, “Tito,” no doubt referring former light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz. Griffin and Ortiz have fought two times before, each fighter taking home a win. Ortiz earned a narrow split-decision victory at UFC 59 almost six years ago, while Griffin got revenge at UFC 106 with a split-decision win of his own.

The second question asked of Fertitta – the Tweet concerning Mir’s next contest – earned an equally short, but interesting response. “Cain,” Fertitta messaged back this morning, referring to former heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez, who saw his belt removed from around his waist at UFC on FOX 1 when he was defeated by current champion Junior dos Santos.

Neither fight has received an official date as of yet, but more information should become available shortly.
