The House of Representatives today is expected to vote on the American Health Care Act, the GOP’s Obamacare’s replacement.
Members of Congress are currently meeting in the House of Representatives to debate the bill, and they are expected to vote sometime between 1:15 p.m. and 1:45 p.m. Eastern Time. The vote, in addition to the preceding debate, can be viewed live in the embedded YouTube player via PBS.
The American Health Care Act is the Republican Party’s Obamacare replacement, which was withdrawn at the end of March when it became clear that the party did not have the votes.
However, the GOP has since added in something called the McArthur amendment, which allows individual states to receive waivers from certain federal regulations. This appealed to the conservative wing of the party, which had opposed the original bill because they felt it was too similar to Obamacare and did not go far enough in rolling the health care bill back.
It is now believed that the Republican Party actually has the votes this time to pass the American Health Care Act. If they do, this will be one of the biggest achievements of President Donald Trump’s presidency, and a fulfillment of his campaign promise to immediately repeal and replace Obamacare.
