Alabama had the ball deep in its own territory with less than 2 minutes left Saturday night at LSU and was trying to mount a game-winning drive or at the very least to get the ball away from their own endzone.

Instead, star Alabama running back TJ Yeldon fumbled after he appeared to grimace in pain while being tackled. LSU recovered and took over at the Tide 6-yard-line, leading to a go-ahead 39-yard field goal by Colby Delahoussaye with 50 seconds left.

Yeldon left the game after the play and Derrick Henry took over as the primary ball-carrier.

Amazingly, with Alabama’s College Football Playoff hopes on life support, Blake Sims led the Crimson Tide on a long drive culminating with a 27-yard Adam Griffith field goal that sent the game to overtime, and Sims delivered again in the extra session, leading a touchdown drive on Bama’s first possession that, coupled with a big stop by the ‘Bama defense, allowed the Tide to escape with a 20-13 win and take Yeldon off the hook for the fumble.

Alabama coach Nick Saban said during his postgame on-field interview with CBS that Yeldon had sprained his ankle, but that he wasn’t sure how serious the injury is.

The Tuscaloosa News’ D.C. Reeves tweeted a photo of Yeldon walking on the sideline under his own power during overtime.

We’ll update this post once there’s more info on the severity of the injury.
