Eagles vs. Jets: Time, Channel & Line

There’s some potential for several “firsts” this Sunday afternoon.

The New York Jets have never won a game against the Philadelphia Eagles. The Philadelphia Eagles have not won a game this season. Something’s got to give.

Gang Green is coming off a short week after a victory over the Indianapolis Colts on Monday night but the Jets aren’t lacking in confidence ahead of the matchup. In fact, there’s plenty of reason to feel good about New York’s balanced offensive attack. Brandon Marshall is primed to become the seventh active player to reach 10,000 receiving yards. He’s 66-yards away and odds are pretty good that Marshall will crack the mark against an Eagles secondary that has looked slow this season.

On the Eagles side, it’s time for the offense to step up. Philadelphia has not looked like Philadelphia yet, or at least the Philadelphia that Chip Kelly wants. Sam Bradford needs to take control and complete passes. Another loss would be devastating to the Eagles early-season playoff hopes.

Kickoff for the matchup is slated for 1 p.m. ET on Sunday afternoon. Check out everything you need to know about the game here.

Scouting the Eagles

It gets worse.

After two disappointing performances so far this season, the Philadelphia Eagles took another big-time hit this week when running back DeMarco Murray left practice on Wednesday with a mild hamstring strain. He didn’t practice on Thursday.

Still, head coach Chip Kelly said that Murray may still be able to go on Sunday, telling media:

You always have to have depth at running back, and that was always the plan for us. We have tremendous confidence in Ryan and also in Darren Sproles if DeMarco can’t go. We’ll see what he does (on Friday) and Saturday.

The Eagles announced that Murray will play on Sunday afternoon, but it’ll be interesting to see how many snaps he can take. Murray, as well as the rest of the Eagles offense, has been a bit of a disappointment so far this season. In two games the reigning rushing leader has 11 total yards. Eleven. Total yards. He’s rushed the ball 21 times. That’s not a good average.

Still, losing Murray for Sunday’s matchup against the Jets would certainly limit what Philadelphia could do on the offensive side of the ball.

Scouting the Jets

Ryan Fitzpatrick New York Jets, NFL

Are the Jets for real? It certainly seems like it.

Gang Green is 2-0 after an early-season performance that has caught just about everyone by surprise. Ryan Fitzpatrick has been a bit of a revelation at QB, giving the Jets a sense of maturity under center and control over an offense that’s attacking through the air and on the ground.

Even with Geno Smith medically cleared to play, after that offseason broken jaw debacle, Fitzpatrick is the top quarterback on the New York depth chart and, according to head coach Todd Bowles, “will get all the first team reps.”

This, of course, makes sense. Fitzpatrick was 22-of-34 for 244 yards with two touchdowns and one interceptions in the Jets victory over Indianapolis last week. Fitzpatrick, who has played for six NFL teams over the course of his career, seems comfortable under center in New York and his comfort has given everyone else around him a sense of calm.

That doesn’t make the AFC East any easier, but it does have the Jets feeling good for now.
