Can the Philadelphia Eagles keep building off of last weekend’s victory?

Of course, it’s easy to feel confident when you take down the New England Patriots on the road, but this is an Eagles squad that has been up-and-down all fall and nothing is ever really certain in the NFC East. Still, Philadelphia has a major opportunity in front of it this afternoon, hosting the Buffalo Bills in a game that has more than just a few playoff implications.

As an added bonus we get to see LeSean McCoy return to Philly for the first time since his very public breakup with the squad during the offsseason. December football is fun, isn’t it?

Sure, LeSean McCoy may downplay his return to Philadelphia. Chip Kelly may try and downplay the emotion that went into sending the former Eagles running back to Buffalo this offseason. But people are people and this Sunday afternoon faceoff means quite a bit; to both sides.

So far this season it seems as if the Bills have gotten the better end of the McCoy deal as the veteran back has averaged 79.2 rushing yards per game, good enough for fourth in the NFL.

“From our perspective, we couldn’t be happier with (the trade),” coach Rex Ryan said. “I mean, obviously LeSean is a great player, great talent and we love him in the building. He’s got that great energy about him and (is a) good teammate.”

Meanwhile, the Eagles run game is in a bit of a shambles. DeMarco Murray is still struggling in the backfield, averaging a career-low 3.5 yards per rush and has just one 100-yard game to his name this fall. Ryan Mathews is set to return this Sunday, adding another bump in the road to Murray’s chances of getting carries. Oh, and Darren Sproles and Kenyon Barner are also getting carries.

In other words, Philadelphia’s performance on the ground is as uncoordinated as ever. It’s just that kind of muddled mess that has led to the Eagles yo-yo year and could, possibly, keep them out of the postseason.
