Sharks-Penguins Game 5 Preview

The Pittsburgh Penguins continued their suffocating speed against the San Jose Sharks with a 3-1 victory in Game 4 on the road Monday.

The Penguins have had a clear advantage in shots, speed, and scoring chances in the first four games of the series.

Now, they have a chance to hoist their fourth Stanley Cup by winning Game 5 at home Thursday.

Phil Kessel has been crucial for the Pens. He leads the team in goals and points, netting 10 goals over the last seven weeks. Kessel also has 11 assists, including setting up a pair of goals in Monday’s 3-1 win.

Matt Murray made 23 saves and was key in maintaining the Penguins’ lead in the third period.

The Sharks will have to figure out a way to create offensive momentum if they want to keep their championship hopes alive.

Pittsburgh’s stifling defense has been able to neutralize some of San Jose’s biggest stars.

Brent Burns, Logan Couture, and Joe Pavelski are three of the Sharks’ four top goal scorers, and none have scored in this series.

Getting off to a fast start will also be a huge key for the Sharks. They haven’t been able to capture a lead during any game of this series, but are 9-2 in the playoffs when scoring first.

Will the Sharks be able to force Game 6 with a win tonight? The puck drops at 8 p.m. tonight at CONSOL Energy Center in Pittsburgh.
