Crawford vs. Canelo Was a Historic Moment for Boxing
Crawford is well accustomed to being told he can’t do it. He proved size doesn’t matter, moving to a heavier weight class, to defeat Alvarez by unanimous decision. The judges scored it 116-112, 115-113 and 115-113.
With the victory, Crawford made history as the first male boxer of the four-belt era to claim undisputed championships in three different weight classes.
“I told y’all I’m not here just by a coincidence. God blessed me,” Crawford said post-fight. “He made this event, and he made this night just for me. And I’ve been telling y’all that. It’s not my fault. It’s God’s.”
Though the scorecards were close, Crawford’s performance told a different story—he looked dominant, consistently a step or two ahead of Canelo.

Crawford outlanded Alvarez 115–99 in total punches and dominated the jab count 45–16. He rose to the occasion in key moments, most notably in the 11th round, when a crisp jab forced Alvarez to step back and shake his head in disbelief.
“There’s no defeat here,” Alvarez said. “The fact that I’m here makes me already a winner. I’ve done everything in my career. I’ve come to actually take risks, and that’s what I did. I take risks.”
The narrative going into the fight and adding the pro-Canelo crowd in Vegas made it seem of though it was Crawford against the world. And he delivered a simply iconic performance that will forever have him in the conversation as one of the greatest boxers of all time.
The 38-year-old doesn’t know if he wants to hang up his gloves yet.
“I don’t know,” Crawford said. “I have to sit down with my team, and we’re gonna talk about it.”
