A stunning fraud case tied to Alabama Crimson Tide football has emerged, as former defensive lineman Luther Davis is accused of orchestrating a massive loan scam involving several NFL players.
According to reporting from USA Today, Davis allegedly impersonated high-profile athletes in a scheme that netted nearly $20 million in fraudulent loans, sending shockwaves through both college football and the NFL.
How Did the Alleged Scheme Work?
Federal prosecutors say Davis, along with an accomplice, carried out a sophisticated operation between 2023 and 2024. The scheme reportedly involved:
- Creating fake businesses tied to players
- Using fraudulent documents and financial statements
- Opening bank accounts under false identities
- Participating in loan closings while disguised as NFL players
In some cases, Davis allegedly used wigs, makeup, and fake identification to pose as the athletes during virtual loan signings.
