Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson is set to head off to the 2026 NFL Draft.

The 2025 college football season did not end as hoped for Ty Simpson and the Alabama Crimson Tide.

After an up-and-down year, Alabama was able to come through with a big-time win on the road against Oklahoma in the first round of the College Football Playoff. That set up a huge showdown against Curt Cignetti and the Indiana Hoosiers in the Rose Bowl.

Unfortunately for Simpson and company, that game ended in disaster. The Crimson Tide were dominated by Indiana and were eliminated from the playoff by a final score of 38-3.

Shortly after Alabama got eliminated, Simpson made the decision to enter his name into the 2026 NFL Draft. He could have returned for another college season, but the NFL will be his next chapter.

Now, a new projection has come out about where Simpson could land at the professional level.

Alabama’s Ty Simpson Draws Favorable NFL Projection

New York Post analyst Steve Serby recently released a new mock draft on January 10. In that mock draft, he had Simpson being selected by the Los Angeles Rams with the No. 29 overall pick in the first round.

Simpson was at one point rising up draft boards this season. There were projections that had him being a top-10 pick. However, those hopes died down after he struggled a bit down the stretch of the season.

Landing with the Rams would be a dream scenario as the heir apparent to Matthew Stafford.

During the 2025 college football season with the Crimson Tide, Simpson put up quality numbers. He completed 64.5 percent of his pass attempts for 3,567 yards, 28 touchdowns, and five interceptions. Simpson also ran for 93 yards and two more scores.

Those numbers would interest quite a few NFL teams. He has the skill-set to become a quality professional quarterback if he can reach his ceiling.

Why the Rams Make Perfect Sense for Simpson

At this point in his career, Simpson would be better off ending up with a team where he can learn from the sideline for a year or two. Los Angeles can offer that scenario to him.

Stafford is now 37 years old. No one knows when he will choose to retire, but it was very clear this season that he has plenty of good football left in the tank.

In 17 games this season, Stafford threw for 4,707 yards, 46 touchdowns, and eight interceptions while completing 65 percent of his passes. There is a good chance those numbers will lead to an MVP win.

Assuming Stafford plays at least one more season, Simpson would be given time to develop under an NFL coaching staff. Working with Sean McVay would be a dream come true for any young quarterback. Learning from Stafford would be ideal as well.

While there are still concerns about Simpson, the right NFL team will be able to get the most out of him. No draft pick is a guarantee, but if the Rams were to land Simpson the Alabama standout would be given the best possible chance at future success.

That being said, it will be very interesting to see where Simpson goes. He could slip out of the first round, but Los Angeles would make a ton of sense late in the first round.
