Former Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Ty Simpson is shedding new light on just how serious the pursuit by the Miami Hurricanes really was.
According to recent reports and Simpson’s own comments, the Crimson Tide signal-caller came extremely close to accepting a massive NIL package from Miami before ultimately deciding to enter the 2026 NFL Draft.
The offer wasn’t just significant, it was potentially life-changing.
Details of Miami’s “Insane” NIL offer
Multiple reports confirm Miami put together a deal worth approximately $6.5 million to lure Simpson away from Alabama and into the transfer portal.
Other programs, including the Ole Miss Rebels and Tennessee Volunteers, were also heavily involved, reportedly offering around $4 million each.
In total, Simpson had access to multiple multi-million dollar opportunities, some of which could have even approached eight figures as negotiations progressed.
For context, Simpson earned significantly less during his time at Alabama, making the decision even more compelling financially.
Simpson took his time mulling over the offer from Miami.
“I think the last offer was definitely one that I just had to sit down and consider, because it would have been life-changing money,” Simpson said, via Pro Football Talk. “It would have made me the highest-paid player in college, and it was something to where I was like, I can’t just ignore this.
Ty Simpson Secured His Alabama Legacy By Turning Down the Offer
Simpson’s situation highlights the evolving reality of college football. With NIL opportunities now reaching into the millions, players are frequently faced with decisions that blur the line between college and professional football.
In this case, Simpson had a legitimate chance to make more money by staying in college than entering the NFL, at least in the short term.
Still, he chose the traditional route and forever etched his name in Alabama football history.
Why Ty Simpson Turned Down Miami’s Offer
Simpson was rather frank about his decision to turn down the offer from the Hurricanes.
“I actually talked to Coach Saban about this,” Simpson said. “The things he was talking about were, do you want to play football in college, or do you want to play football professionally? And he was like, ‘Take the money out of it, take the rounds out of it, what do you want to do next year?’ And without a doubt, without hesitation, I said, ‘I want to play professional football.’ And he was like, ‘Well, there’s your answer.’
Seeking advice from the legendary Saban was a smart move for the former Alabama signal caller.
