The Baylor Bears just landed the most polarizing prospect in the college football transfer portal, quarterback DJ Lagway.
“Florida transfer quarterback DJ Lagway committed to transfer to Baylor out of the portal,” On3’s Alex Byington writes. “Lagway, a former Five-Star Plus+ prospect and the No. 1 overall recruit in the 2024 cycle, will have two seasons of collegiate eligibility remaining.”
At six-foot-three, 250 pounds, Lagway’s build makes him a tantalizing watch. He started as a true freshman at the University of Florida, but his college experience has been anything but regular.
After a full offseason of preparation, Lagway was on several analysts’ Heisman watchlists. But after suffering a Week 2 upset at the hands of the University of South Florida, and throwing five interceptions on prime time the next week against LSU, Lagway’s 2025 season was pushed aside by many.
The 20-year-old quietly kept improving throughout the season. He threw for 300 yards and two touchdowns during the Gators’ massive upset of the University of Texas.
He played two of his best games of the season against top-10-ranked Texas A&M and Ole Miss, but was overshadowed by the head-coach-less Gators being unable to come out with a win.
Lagway ended the season with 2,264 yards and 16 touchdowns. He threw a total of 14 interceptions.
His head coach was fired on October 19th after the Gators narrowly beat the Mississippi State Bulldogs at home.
Given all that has transpired, Lagway played one bad game in 2025 that became the narrative for his entire season.
He will be an exciting watch at Baylor and has the ability to bring the Bears back to the Big 12 title game.
DJ Lagway ‘Homecoming’
Lagway is honoring the family name with his commitment to Baylor.
His father, Derek Lagway, played running back for the Bears for five years. He was a freshman in 1997 and completed his fifth year in 2001.
Lagway finished his Baylor career with more than 1,100 yards from scrimmage and six total touchdowns.
Lagway Attends Baylor Basketball Game On Visit
Head coach Dave Arnada pulled out the big guns on Lagway’s official visit on Wednesday.
Arnada took Lagway over to the Foster Pavilion on campus to watch the Baylor Bears men’s basketball team take on the undefeated third-ranked Iowa State Cyclones.
The duo sat in the stands with the rest of the fans in Waco. They were shown on both the Jumbotron and the TV broadcast as the Bears took the Cyclones down to the wire.
The next day, Lagway committed.
