Matt Campbell will begin his Penn State Nittany Lions coaching career with the same quarterback that led his former team, the Iowa State Cyclones, to 26 wins in three seasons.

Transfer portal quarterback Rocco Becht has signed with the Penn State Nittany Lions, On3’s Pete Nakos reports.

Becht has the second-most career passing yards of any quarterback in the NCAA, ranking behind only former TCU quarterback Josh Hoover, who is also in the portal.

Becht has thrown for 9,274 passing yards and 64 touchdown passes, adding 19 more on the ground for a total of 83 touchdowns in three years.

He started as a redshirt freshman in the Big 12 and earned the conference freshman of the year award. As a sophomore, he led the Cyclones to an 11-2 regular season record and a berth in the Big 12 Conference Championship Game against Cam Skattebo’s Arizona State Sun Devils.

Becht follows his coach to State College and will make the transfer from James Franklin to Matt Campbell a little bit more seamless.

Penn State Steals Second Iowa State Transfer

Matt Campbell wasn’t done there. It wasn’t enough to steal starter Rocco Becht, Campbell went back for his redshirt freshman quarterback Alex Manske and took him too.

Manske was a true freshman in this past season. He appeared in three games, only playing real time in Iowa State’s first game of the seaosn against an FCS opponent.

The six-foot-three Iowa native had several offers coming out of highschool as a three star recruit.
