During the first quarter of the Longhorns‘ game against San Jose State, Quintrevion Wisner was shown on the broadcast wearing heavy gold chains around his neck. Commentators joked that the chains matched his NIL valuation.
He appeared on camera during a tense part of the first quarter, before the Longhorns began to hit their stride and pull safely ahead. The moment gave a bit of comic relief to fans, who enjoyed seeing him wearing what appeared to be about 25 pounds of jewelry. Wisner was on the sidelines due to an injury.
Fans Wondered Why He Was Wearing So Many Chains
The gold chains quickly went viral, with fans wondering why he was wearing them and commenting on the look.
An X account called Burnt Orange Nation posted, “What is Wisner wearing around his neck?”
The account HookedonTx explained: “It’s something alit of teams players do, they have one player wear a bunch of the players jewelry so they don’t have to leave it in the locker because teams have had theft.”
Another person wrote, “Looks like all of the players have their necklaces to him.”
Another person joked: “Tre Wisner got a million dollars around his neck.”
Another person joked, “Tre Wisner out with an injury today, it’s clear that it’s not a neck injury.”
Brandon Zimmerman of ESPN wrote, “Texas RB Tre Wisner, who is wearing his NIL valuation in jewelry, is out today with an injury, per broadcast.”
Fans enjoyed the lighthearted moment.
Tre Wisner Was on the Injury List for the Game
Wisner was on the sidelines wearing the chains because he unexpectedly ended up on the Longhorns’ injury list.
The running back was out before the game began. SI reported that it was likely for precautionary reasons. His absence would leave the Longhorns leaning more on players like CJ Basxster, who scored a one-yard rushing touchdown during the second quarter that was walked back due to an illegal move.
Other players out for injuries included defensive tackle Alex January, running back Colin Page, and defensive lineman Isaiah Coleman.
Emmett Mosley V also missed his second game, despite indications earlier this week that he might be returning.
During the SEC Teleconference on Wednesday, head coach Steve Sarkisian said about Mosley: “We’re monitoring that [his return] closely,” Sports Illustrated reported. “I think if he does go Saturday, it’ll be on a limited basis, but we’ll see again. I’m not in a rush with him, because when we get him out there, I want to make sure that he’s healthy, and so I’m going to lean into our training staff on that of what that looks like for Emmett. I know he’s chomping at the bit to get out there, and I know we’re excited to get him out there, but that remains to be seen.”
Unfortunately, it ended up being too soon for Mosley’s return.
