The 2026 FIA Formula 1 Grand Prix season is off to a unprecedented dramatic start with Grand Prix races at risk of cancellation due to imminent global warfare, drivers being told they have to serve a penalty from two years ago – then having the FIA institute a spontaneous new rule which erases penalties accrued more than 12 months prior – and now there are drivers on the F1 grid saying that they will ‘electrocute’ themselves if they are made to compete in the Australian GP this weekend.
Here’s what to know about this horrifying reality one of the professional F1 teams is facing right now.
The Intensity of the Engines’ Vibrations Carry Serious Safety and Health Concerns

The issue at the moment is that the AMR26 build of the new car, when paired with the new Honda engines Aston Martin is using this season, cause extreme vibrations while the F1 vehicles are already so low to the ground and have had historical issues with causing physical damage to the driver’s bodies. Lance Stroll has been vocal about the dangers of the engine and car incompatibility, and he hasn’t held back on his words one bit, saying, “I don’t know how you can compare it. “I guess just electrocute yourself on a chair or something like that, not far off.”
“It’s just, it’s very uncomfortable vibrations. It’s bad for the engine, but also for the human inside the car. We need to get on top of it, but I think we will,” continues Stroll, the son of team owner Lawrence Stroll.
Alonso, Stroll at Risk of ‘Permanent Nerve Damage’

Adrian Newey, the Team Principal for Aston Martin, has said that the team will likely decide not to participate in more than 20 laps of the inaugural 2026 Australian GP to protect the drivers and their physical conditions. Newey has revealed that there could be a risk of permanent nerve damage should the drivers complete the entire circuit of the Grand Prix in Melbourne on March 7, 2026. The team will require time to sort out the incompatibility and vibration issues before the car is safe for both Lance Stroll and Fernando Alonso to drive.
“Are we going to be where we want to be this weekend? No,” says Stroll. Then, touching on the preseason testing the F1 teams collectively conducted in Bahrain a few weeks before, Stroll adds, “Bahrain was only a couple of weeks ago, and these changes don’t happen over night. But, we made some changes over the last couple of weeks and we’ll see how we go.
This is a new car build for the team to align with a new set of FIA protocol for cars and engines, and it is the first time Aston Martin is using this specific model with the Honda engines.
