After being arrested for a DUI on Friday, March 27, 2026, professional golf legend Tiger Woods has finally given a statement in his first instance of speaking out about the events that led to his arrest near his home in Jupiter, Florida.

Here is what Tiger Woods had to say in his statement, which he published on X.

In his first statement since last week’s events, Tiger Woods posted a digital message on his social media accounts, saying:

“I know and understand the seriousness of the situation I find myself in today. I am stepping away for a period of time to seek treatment and focus on my health. This is necessary in order for me to prioritize my well-being and work toward lasting recovery.”

“I’m committed to taking the time needed to return in a healthier, stronger, and more focused place, both personally and professionally. I appreciate your understanding and support, and ask for privacy for my family, loved ones and myself at this time.”

At the end of the statement, he used a simple digital signature written as, “-Tiger”.

This is the golfer’s second DUI arrest following his first run-in with law enforcement in 2017. When he was charged with the 2017 DUI, toxicology reports returned positive results for a cocktail of controlled substances in his system – all of which come with warnings not to operate machinery nor get behind the wheel of a motor vehicle while taking. Among the substances found in Tiger’s system in 2017 were Xanax, Ambien, Vicodin, and Dilaudid. Many of these medications are not supposed to be taken in combination with one another as doing so can post life-threatening risks and significantly further impairment should the person taking them try to drive.

Woods has had an ongoing history of prescription medication abuse, especially when it comes to opioid pain medication and benzodiazepines, which he has previously attributed needing in the treatment of post-operative pain following several back surgeries. He has also undergone medical treatment for injuries which he sustained in another car crash in 2021 in which he was the sole driver in the single-car accident.
