The FM Championship is only in its second year, but it’s already making positive changes in the golf world. The event at TPC Boston is regarded as a “cant-miss” event by by players and fans alike.
Currently, Round 4 is set to begin with Miranda Wang in the lead in Massachusetts. American Rose Zhang and South Korean Kim Sei-Young are T2, three strokes behind.
The FM Championship offers one of the most competitive purses on the LPGA Tour. It also supports players by offering hotel and airfare credits, a recovery room, higher end food and beverage offerings, and player-focused dinners on Thursday and Friday evening. These options boost player morals, with everyone appearing happier while in attendance.
Golf Clinic
The range at the FM Championship is an exciting place to be. The two-floor facility has an upper and lower deck. On the upper deck, the pros warm up prior to their rounds.
On the lower level, children play games and connect with their peers over the game of golf. LPGA Professionals are there for hands-on teaching. Receiving this kind of instruction while spending time along practicing professionals is a valuable opportunity for the kids in attendance.
The LPGA-USA Golf Clinics occur at selected events and are free for children aged 6 to 17. They offer free instruction alongside the opportunity to meet LPGA players. These events eventually led to the creation of the leadership academy.
FM Championship Leadership Academy
The Leadership Academy was added to the LPGA ten years ago. In that time, they have hosted more than 40 academies according to Stephanie Peareth, Director of Operations for the LPGA Foundation.
“We’ve hosted more than 40 academies over the last decade, producing hundreds of incredible success stories. We share in our curriculum that these girls have the power to change the world and reach their dreams. Day one, they tend to be skeptical, but by day two, they find small parts to boost their self-belief and realize what they are capable of.”
Former LPGA Foundation President Nancy Henderson, who began the development of the academy, noticed the decline in girls participation in golf as they hit their teenage years. She aimed to change this trend.
“The need for this Leadership Academy was evident every time an LPGA-USGA Girls Golf Clinic was conducted,” Henderson explained.
“The difference in body language between a 6-year-old girl and a teenage girl was alarming. You could visibly see the lack of self-esteem and confidence among the teenage girls. I knew our program had the capacity to help these girls, but it was just a matter of figuring out the right medium to do so. This leadership program uses golf as the vehicle to teach girls life skills specific to girls, like confidence, leadership, decision making, communication skills, risk taking and resilience that help them to be successful both on and off the course.”
The final round of the FM Championship begins Sunday August 31st, 2025. Fans can watch on ESPN+. This is part of a two-year deal beginning in November 2023. They will be presenting live featured group coverage of eight LPGA Tour tournaments this season.
