Alabama basketball guard Aden Holloway was arrested Monday morning, according to multiple reports, just days before the Crimson Tide begin their run in the 2026 NCAA Tournament.

Details of the arrest were shared by Alabama sports writer Nick Kelly on X.

Authorities confirmed that Holloway, 21, was taken into custody following a search conducted by the West Alabama Narcotics Task Force.

Aden Holloway Arrest Details Released by Tuscaloosa Police

According to information shared by a Tuscaloosa police spokesperson, law enforcement officers executed a search of a residence in the 400 block of 30th Avenue East.

During the search, authorities recovered more than a pound of marijuana along with paraphernalia and cash.

Following the search, Holloway was arrested and charged with first-degree possession of marijuana and failure to affix a tax stamp.

The 21-year-old was transported to the Tuscaloosa County Jail after the arrest. His bond was set at $5,000.

Reports also indicate that Holloway was involved in a traffic stop earlier in
the week, though further details about that incident have not been released.

Officials have not announced additional updates regarding the case.

Aden Holloway’s Status for NCAA Tournament Unclear

The timing of the arrest comes just days before Alabama begins play in the 2026 NCAA Tournament.

The Crimson Tide enter the tournament as the No. 4 seed and are scheduled to face No. 13 seed Hofstra in the first round.

At this time, Holloway’s availability for the game remains unclear.

Alabama has not publicly announced whether the junior guard will play in the upcoming matchup.

Holloway Emerged as Key Alabama Basketball Contributor

Holloway earned a starting role for Alabama after serving as the team’s sixth man during the 2024-25 season.

The junior guard delivered one of his strongest seasons this year, earning All-SEC Third Team honors.

Holloway finished the regular season ranked 14th in the Southeastern Conference in scoring. He averaged 16.8 points per game while shooting 48.0 percent from the field.

He also ranked eighth in the conference in assists, averaging 3.9 per game.

Those numbers helped establish Holloway as one of Alabama’s top offensive players heading into postseason play.

The Crimson Tide are preparing to begin their NCAA Tournament run later this week.

Alabama Basketball Earns No. 4 Seed in NCAA Tournament

Despite an early exit in the SEC Tournament, Alabama still secured a strong position in the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament bracket.

The Crimson Tide received a No. 4 seed and will compete in the Midwest Region.
Alabama is scheduled to face Hofstra in the opening round on Friday. If the Crimson Tide advance, they will meet the winner of Texas Tech versus Akron on Sunday.

Michigan holds the No. 1 seed in the Midwest Region.

Hofstra enters the tournament after finishing the season 24–10 overall and 12–6 in Colonial Athletic Association play. The Pride won the conference tournament as the No. 3 seed to earn the automatic NCAA bid.

According to available metrics, Hofstra ranked No. 88 nationally. The Pride finished 0-1 in Quad 1 games and 2-2 in Quad 2 matchups. Their most notable victory came on the road against No. 86 Syracuse.

Alabama built its tournament résumé against one of the toughest schedules in the country. The Crimson Tide went 7-7 against Quad 1 opponents, 9-2 against Quad 2 teams, and 7-0 against Quad 3 and Quad 4 competition.

Those results helped Alabama secure the No. 4 seed despite the SEC Tournament loss.

Head coach Nate Oats will lead Alabama to the NCAA Tournament for the sixth consecutive season.

During a recent press conference, Oats acknowledged that the team’s season had not unfolded exactly as expected.

“I didn’t plan on being a four seed this year,” Oats said.

Oats added that the team still has time to change how the season is remembered.

“The season has been a little bit of a disappointment,” Oats said. “We can fix all that here over the next two weeks.”
