Nate Oats and the Alabama Crimson Tide men’s basketball team are facing another offseason roster shake-up, as freshman guard Davion Hannah plans to enter the transfer portal, according to a report from Jeff Goodman of Field of 68.
Hannah is the fourth Alabama player to enter the portal this cycle, joining Aiden Sherrell, Taylor Bol Bowen, and Jalil Bethea.
Who is Davion Hannah?
Hannah arrived in Tuscaloosa with significant expectations. The 6-foot-6 guard was a 4-star prospect in the 2025 recruiting class, ranked as the No. 48 overall player nationally and one of the top defensive talents in his class.
However, his freshman season never fully materialized. Hannah appeared in just 10 games for Alabama during the 2025-26 campaign, averaging 3.3 points and 1.9 rebounds in nearly 13 minutes of action per game.
His final appearance came on December 17 against South Florida before being shut down for the remainder of the season due to what Oats described as a “medical condition.” The specifics of that condition were never publicly detailed.
Medical Redshirt and Eligibility Outlook for Davion Hannah
During the season, Oats indicated that Hannah would likely pursue a medical redshirt. If granted, that would preserve a year of eligibility and allow him to have four remaining seasons at his next program.
That added eligibility could make Hannah an intriguing option in the transfer portal, particularly given his length and defensive upside.
What Davion Hannah’s Transfer Means for Alabama
This is another prime example of how fast rosters can change in the current climate of college athletics. In just one short year, Alabama went from having a top-50 overall recruit with tremendous upside to searching for some quality pieces to add to the backcourt.
Let’s see how well Coach Oats and the Alabama coaching staff can pivot and build another roster that can make a run in March Madness.
