The New York Mets have made several roster moves by trade over the past week. They’ve traded away Luisangel Acuna, Brandon Sproat, and prospect Jett Williams, but have gained Freddy Peralta, Tobias Myers, and Luis Robert Jr.

On Thursday, the Mets made another trade, but this time with the Minnesota Twins for infielder Vidal Brujan. New York sends over cash considerations for the former Braves and Mets player. Brujan played 102 games for the Marlins in 2024 and 36 with the Braves last season. The Twins announced the trade via their Instagram account.

Mets Acquire Vidal Brujan for Cash

This is a small trade in terms of scale across MLB, but for what it’s worth, Bujan helps with the Mets’ organizational depth and can potentially provide a pinch runner or defensive replacement option at some point during the season.

Brujan will likely come off the bench, given the Mets’ crowded infield room, but the fact that he was traded for cash certainly doesn’t secure his position even on the roster.

In those 102 games played with the Marlins in 2024, he hit .222 with two home runs, and then spent time with three clubs in 2025. When Austin Riley went down for the Atlanta Braves last in the season, Brujan found himself back in an MLB lineup in some capacity. In 41 at-bats with the Braves, he hit .268 with 11 hits.

He came up with the Tampa Bay Rays in 2021, but did not produce much with the bat there either. In his first three seasons in MLB, his bWAR was below 0.0.

For his five-year career, Brujan is a sub-.200 hitter with just five home runs.

What Else Might the Mets Do this Offseason?

As mentioned, this could be a good organizational move for the Mets, and Vidal Brujan likely spends time in the minors before even getting a chance to get an MLB at-bat.

However, injuries can plague teams, and that’s how a player like Brujan can stack time and maybe prove himself as a “next-man-up” type of player.

As for what the Mets might do for the rest of this offseason? They have had the most active week stretch of any MLB team this offseason, and January is coming to a close soon.

New York might make minimal moves like signing another low-cost bullpen arm or starter, but it remains unclear how much they want to spend.
