The Atlanta Braves need to make a move before MLB Opening Day. That could manifest in a variety of different ways, but the Braves have an outfield/DH spot presumably open after the tragic Jurickson Profar news. Could Atlanta look to the trade market to bring in a capable player?
The New York Yankees have a wealth of talent in the minor leagues, especially at the top with Spencer Jones. Still, this mock trade idea sees the Braves landing New York’s outfielder Jasson Dominguez in return for catcher Sean Murphy and SS prospect Alex Lodise.

Who Says No to Jasson Dominguez Trade Idea?

GettyJasson Dominguez gets harsh comment on future with Yankees.
Honestly, the Yankees are more likely to say no in this hypothetical trade pitch. Sean Murphy carries a six-year, $73 million contract, and his ceiling is a backup catcher. He would fit in well with the Yankees behind Austin Wells, and the Yankees are one of the few MLB organizations that could take on his contract, but this trade package might be more attractive for the prospect (Alex Lodise) that they’d be getting in return.
As for the Braves wanting Jasson Dominguez, there have been so many trade speculation rumors surrounding Dominguez this offseason. With the news that he’s likely to start the season in Triple-A due to the crowded Yanks’ outfield, it could be time to cut ties with Dominguez.
He’s already a heavily scrutinized player in New York before even getting 1,000 career at-bats on his resume, which isn’t fair to Jasson Dominguez from a player assessment standpoint. Joining Atlanta would give him some breathing room, and he might even enjoy the vibes of the Braves more playing alongside Michael Harris II and Ronald Acuña Jr. in the outfield.
Will the Braves Make a Trade Before Opening Day?
This trade idea is also one that can be revisited either at the beginning of the season or closer to the All-Star break, but for now, the Braves are unlikely to make a trade like this before Opening Day.
It’s a shame, because Atlanta has a lot of talent, but everyone in the baseball world knows they could afford to make one or two more additions before spring training is over.
If Atlanta isn’t looking for an outfielder/DH, that’s fine, but another external pitching addition is almost necessary for fans and analysts to fully believe in the team’s pitching staff.
Will it happen? That’s a question for GM Alex Anthopoulos, but this trade idea on paper, which would send Sean Murphy and Alex Lodise to the Yankees for Jasson Dominguez, makes sense on paper, but manifesting it is a completely different story.
