Baltimore Orioles infielder Jackson Holliday has suffered a setback in his wrist injury rehab.

The Baltimore Orioles continue to be without young infielder Jackson Holliday after he underwent wrist surgery, and it appears the former first-round pick could be sidelined longer than initially hoped.

The ball club had to recall Holliday from his rehab assignment on Tuesday due to mild soreness in his right wrist, as reported by Luke Jones of Baltimorepositive.com. While this is a common symptom after the procedure, there’s no timetable for Holliday’s return.

The 22-year-old fractured his hamate bone in spring training and began the 2026 campaign on the 10-day IL. He had actually played 11 games for Triple-A Norfolk during his rehab stint before getting shut down. Holliday hit just .167.

Jackson Holliday Trying to Live Up To The Hype With Baltimore Orioles

Holliday had growing pains when he initially came up to the Majors in early 2024. He struggled to produce, with the Orioles sending him down to Triple-A before recalling him in July of ’24. Holliday hit under .200 in 60 games in his debut season.

However, 2025 showed significant improvement at the dish.  Holliday batted .242 in 149 games, slugging 17 home runs and driving in 55 RBIs. Holliday’s xSLG jumped from .337 to .404, and he was squaring up the baseball more consistently.

However, Holliday has yet to live up to the expectations that follow after being the first overall pick, and the son of a legend like Matt Holiday.

After an atrocious season last year, when they finished near the bottom of the Majors in most offensive categories, Baltimore has improved so far. They’re eighth in average, 15th in runs, and ninth in hits. The O’s have also won three straight and currently sit at the top of the always-competitive American League East.

Nevertheless, getting a player of Holliday’s talent back will be key on both sides of the ball. Baltimore is letting him rest for at least a few days before deciding on the next step. Wrist injuries can be tricky, which means the Orioles must be cautious with his recovery.

For what it’s worth, Holliday was seen on the field working out at Camden Yards prior to Monday’s contest against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Holliday revealed last week that he was still in the process of strengthening his wrist and getting back to 100%:

“I’m still working through some things,” he said, via baltimorebaseball.com. “I’d be lying if I said it felt 100 percent, but it’s kind of just part of it. I’m trying to strengthen it, kind of just trying to get used to what I’m probably going to have to deal with for a little bit. But for the most part, not too bad.”

It remains to be seen if the Orioles will send him back to Triple-A or start him at a lower level initially. Holliday was absent from Norfolk’s starting lineup last Friday, the first sign that something was potentially wrong in his rehab.
