The Boston Red Sox placed Roman Anthony on the IL on May 7 with a wrist injury, and he’s remained sidelined since.
However, Anthony continues to work toward a return. Over the past week, he has played three rehab games with the Red Sox’s Double-A affiliate, the Portland Sea Dogs.
Red Sox Announce Update on Anthony
Following Boston’s three-game sweep of the San Francisco Giants on Sunday, Red Sox interim manager Chad Tracy provided an update on Anthony’s status.
Tracy revealed that Anthony has finished his rehab stint in Double-A and will now join Boston’s Triple-A affiliate in Worcester. He’ll begin another phase of his rehab as he continues working toward a return to the big league club.

Anthony’s 2026 Season
Anthony is in his second MLB season and appeared in 30 games for the Red Sox before his injury. Across 109 at-bats, he recorded 12 runs, 25 hits, one home run and five RBIs while batting .229 with a .321 slugging percentage and a .675 OPS.
During his three rehab games, Anthony went 3-for-8 with one home run, one double and three RBIs.
Other Red Sox Injury Updates
Outside of Anthony, the Red Sox also have shortstop Trevor Story and fellow infielder Isaiah Kiner-Falefa on rehab assignments.
Tracy revealed after Sunday’s game that the team will reevaluate both Story and Kiner-Falefa in Boston on Monday before beginning a series against the Miami Marlins in Florida.
“Story and Kiner-Falefa will be re evaluated on Monday in Boston,”Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reported. “There’s a chance one or both could join the team in Miami.”
