The Los Angeles Dodgers and Toronto Blue Jays are once again entering the 2026 MLB season considered to be top-tier World Series contenders.

Last season, the two teams pushed each other to seven games in the World Series. While the Dodgers ended up coming out on top, the Blue Jays gave them everything they could handle.

During the MLB offseason, Los Angeles got even better. Kyle Tucker agreed to terms on a massive four-year, $240 million contract in free agency, choosing the Dodgers over Toronto. He will make an already elite team even more difficult to beat.

As for the Blue Jays, they also were aggressive this offseason. Dylan Cease was signed early in the offseason and Toronto also added Japanese star third baseman Kazuma Okamoto in free agency as well.

That being said, could the two teams come together on a trade that could be mutually beneficial?

Dodgers-Blue Jays Trade Pitch Would Send Pitcher to L.A.

On SI’s Ryan Shea has come up with a potential trade idea between the two teams that could make some sense. He has suggested the Dodgers trade for starting pitcher Jose Berrios.

In his suggested trade, the Blue Jays would send Berrios to Los Angeles in exchange for outfielder Josue De Paula, right-handed pitcher Jackson Ferris, and infielder James Tibbs III.

That would be quite the haul for Toronto. As for the Dodgers, they would be getting more pitching depth, which could become a need as the season moves forward.

Seeing these two World Series contenders pull off a trade would be interesting. Both teams would be gaining valuable assets from the deal, but Berrios could come back to haunt the Blue Jays this season.

What Does Jose Berrios Bring to the Mound?

During the 2025 MLB season, Berrios played an important role for Toronto. He made 30 starts and appeared in 31 total games, compiling a 9-5 record to go along with a 4.17 ERA, a 1.30 WHIP, a 2.5 K/BB ratio, and 166 innings pitched.

Throughout his entire career, he has made 273 starts and made 275 appearances, compiling a 108-82 record, a 4.08 ERA, a 1.24 WHIP, a 3.1 K/BB ratio, and 1,571.2 innings of work completed. He may not be a “star,” but he’s a quality pitcher to have on the roster.

At 31 years old, Berrios still has some good baseball left ahead of him. Los Angeles would be adding insurance in case of injury. As for Toronto, the Blue Jays would be bringing in more young talent to round out the organization.

It’s just an idea at this point in time. No reporting has connected these two teams in potential trade talks involving Berrios. But, it’s an interesting idea to think about.
